Poland with Tomasz Tomaszewski


Join world-renowned Polish photographer Tomasz Tomaszewski, on this fantastic trip across Poland! He will show you his country as only a native can.

Tomasz started his photographic career with Polish magazines and worked with Solidarity Weekly as well as the underground press. In 1992 his work received honorable mention in the magazine news category of the Washington Journalism Review (now the American Journalism Review) awards.
His pictures have appeared in international publications including National Geographic, Stern, Paris Match, GEO, New York Times, TIME, Fortune, Elle, Vogue.

He has also authored a number of books, including Remnants: The Last Jews of Poland, Gypsies: The Last Ones; In Search of America, In the Centre, Astonishing Spain, A Stone’s Throw, Overwhelmed by the Atmosphere of Kindness, and Things that last. Tomasz has held numerous individual exhibitions in the USA, Canada, Israel, Japan, Brazil, Madagascar, the Netherlands, Germany, France, Italy, Indonesia and of course Poland, and is the recipient of many Polish and international awards for photography. For over twenty years he has been a regular contributor to National Geographic Magazine USA in which eighteen of his photo essays have been published. Tomasz has taught photography in Poland, the USA, Germany and Italy.

Day 1

Arrive in Warsaw and check in to the hotel. In the late afternoon participants will meet with master photographer Tomasz Tomaszewski, then head out to capture the afternoon light and the city’s ebb and flow. The group will enjoy a welcome dinner at a local favorite restaurant and Tomasz will give an introduction of the workshop.

Day 2

Exploring the Old Town of Warsaw. In the evening an informative slide show about Poland.

Day 3

Trip to Cracow with frequent stops for landscape pictures along the way. In the afternoon we will explore the old part of Cracow. Slide shows by Tomasz and a review of photos shot by the students.

Day 4

We will explore the old part of Cracow and an evening photo review.

Day 5

Day trip to the salt mine in Wieliczka. We will spend the afternoon with a guide and exploring one of Poland’s most notable historical landmarks before returning to Cracow for a picture review.

Day 6

Our trip continues on to Bukowina Tatrzańska, a picturesque village in the mountains. We will stay in the Termy Spa Bukovina Hotel, known for its 26 heated swimming pools. In the afternoon we’ll enjoy a car trip around the area, shooting local colorful lands. Lunch in a typical, regional restaurant. Photo review in the evening.

Day 7

Exploring local culture, people, and the landscape, with an evening photo review.

Day 8

Returning to Warsaw. On the way back we will visit the site of the Auschwitz Concentration Camp.

Day 9

Street Photography and visiting museums. In the afternoon Tomaszewski will collect the best pictures shot by the students and make a slide show presentation.

Day 10

Return flights.

To hold your space, we require a non-refundable deposit of $1,000.00 USD

Fees Included:

  • Workshop fees
  • All Lodging is included.  A single room is subject to availability for an additional fee.
  • All breakfast and two group dinners with one alcoholic drink per participants
  • All transportation in the host country related to the itinerary.
  • Local guide/translator or assistant photographer.

Fees Not Included:

  • Flights to the workshops host country.
  • All paperwork/doc/visa compliance with the nation we are traveling to (Cuba trips all docs are included)
  • Any airport taxes due
  • Extra luggage weight
  • Meals outside of breakfast or the two group meals.
  • Travel/cancellation insurance
  • Any medical insurance.
  • Any tips for an assistant photographer, translators drivers, bellboy, mini bar or any food items or drinks consumed from your hotel/house room.
  • Any optional event that requires entry fees such as: night club, musical event, sports venue, night clubs or any additional cost not included in the itinerary.

What to bring

At least two sets of DSLR camera bodies with five or more large memory cards. Also one wide-angle lens, a 50mm or 85mm lens, a telephoto, a light tripod to shoot during low light or at night and any other photographic tools that you may need during the workshop, including extra batteries, a charger and your laptop to download your images for review & critique. All participants must be able to download and backup you work since each day will be very intense and the instructors won’t have the time for that. I also encourage you to bring a backup system to save your work. External hard drives or flash drives work great. I can give you tips as to the best external hard drive to get. There won’t be any spare computers to be used, so please bring your own with you and PLEASE be very familiar with all your personal equipment.
